Round 2: Big Scores, Shock Defeats, and Statement Wins in the Dames Ereklasse

Round 2 of the Dames Ereklasse delivered plenty of action, high scores, and a few surprises — none bigger than defending champions AAC suffering a heavy defeat on the road in Leiden. Much like the men’s competition, this season’s women’s league is shaping up to be unpredictable and fiercely contested.

DIOK 65 – 26 AAC

Defending champions AAC travelled to Leiden but were met with a dominant DIOK side firing on all cylinders. The home team’s powerful forward pack controlled possession and territory throughout, setting the platform for a statement victory. DIOK’s intensity and precision at the breakdown proved too much for AAC, who will be eager to bounce back after this early-season setback.

Waterland 41 – 26 BRC

After a bye in Round 1, Waterland made their season debut in style. Stacked with several internationals, they showed why they’ll be a major force this year. Their backline was in top form, punishing Breda with clinical finishing and pace out wide. Breda fought bravely but couldn’t contain Waterland’s structure and attacking rhythm.

URC 5 – 77 Delft

Delft announced themselves as serious contenders — perhaps even the dark horses of the competition — with a stunning 77–5 away win over Utrecht. The visitors’ attacking game clicked from the opening whistle, combining speed, accuracy, and composure. If they maintain this level, Delft could be a real threat in the title race.

Cas RC 20 – 38 RUS

In the final fixture of the weekend, last season’s finalists RUS were pushed early by a spirited Cas side. The hosts showed real fight, but RUS’s experience and fitness shone through in the second half as they pulled away for a solid 38–20 win. The result keeps RUS firmly on track as one of the frontrunners in the early standings.

Round 2 had everything powerful forward play, expansive running rugby, and the sense that no team can take a week off. With DIOK and Delft setting the tone and Waterland joining the mix, this Dames Ereklasse season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in years.
