Jose Gorroxtategi Named New Technical Director of Rugby Netherlands

Amsterdam, June 24, 2025 — Rugby Nederland is proud to announce the appointment of Jose Gorroxtategi as its new Technical Director, effective from August 1st this year. With a wealth of international experience in rugby development, strategic policy, and talent nurturing, Jose’s arrival marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing professionalization and growth of Dutch rugby.

A Strategic Mind with International Expertise
Jose Gorroxtategi has spent the past three years as Sport Director at the Polish Rugby Union, where he played a key role in advising the federation’s leadership on strategic and operational matters. His focus lay on training, education, sustainable growth, and enhancing the performance of national teams — a profile that complements Rugby Netherlands’ ambitions perfectly.

Before Poland, Jose served as Rugby Services Manager at Rugby Europe, supporting 40 federations across the continent. His work involved engaging with national federations, liaising with governments and sports authorities, and guiding the allocation of European funding. His extensive insight has helped shape growth strategies aligned with both Rugby Europe and World Rugby initiatives, while his work on coach education and talent development across Europe has garnered high praise.

Earlier in his career, he was involved in programs aimed at increasing participation among youth and new rugby audiences, contributing significantly to the grassroots expansion of the sport.

A Clear Vision for Dutch Rugby
Jose’s broad experience bridges policy, development, and hands-on coaching—attributes that will serve Rugby Nederland well as it aims to raise the sport to new heights. His strategic background aligns seamlessly with the federation’s long-term vision, including ambitions tied to Rugby Agenda 2032.

“I’m truly excited to step into the role of Technical Director,” Jose said. “Rugby in the Netherlands has enormous potential. My goal is to align all technical areas to transform that potential into concrete success. We’ll work closely with our clubs, officials, coaches, and players to foster sustainable growth, improve performance, and uphold the core values that make Dutch rugby unique.”

Looking Ahead to 2032
Under Jose’s leadership, Rugby Nederland will kick off the next phase of its involvement in the Rugby Europe Super Cup, stepping up its international clubs and talent pathways. Continued progress on Rugby Agenda 2032 is also on the horizon, with a focus on elevating standards and engagement across the Dutch rugby community.

Simone de Bruin, Board Member for Top Rugby, summed it up: “With Jose on board, we’re taking a firm step forward—aiming for a stronger, more professional, and more engaged rugby landscape in the Netherlands. This is an exciting chapter for Dutch rugby.”

Stay tuned, big things are coming!
