De zon zakte langzaam achter de Utrechtse skyline toen Dutch Rugby Magazine gisteravond aanwezig was bij de laatste training van de RUS Dames \u2013 een sessie doordrenkt met energie, focus en onvervalst enthousiasme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De sfeer op het veld? Elektrisch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vanaf het moment dat je het trainingsveld opstapte, voelde je het: dit is een team dat op het punt staat iets bijzonders te doen. Voor het eerst in bijna tien jaar staan de RUS Dames weer in de Ereklasse Dames Finale. Aanstaande zaterdag nemen ze het op tegen AAC Dames in wat ongetwijfeld een episch duel zal worden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maar voor deze groep gaat het om meer dan alleen 80 minuten rugby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Een Team Gebouwd op Veerkracht<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

RUS is geen gewone club \u2013 het is een hechte familie. Dat werd meteen duidelijk bij een gesprek met enkele geblesseerde speelsters aan de zijlijn. Ze coachten, moedigden aan, en leefden volop mee \u2013 een bewijs van de diepe verbondenheid binnen deze ploeg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aanvoerster Lilian Ploeger<\/strong> en vice-aanvoerster Mhina de Vos<\/strong> bevestigden dat gevoel na de training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe zijn ontzettend enthousiast om hier te staan,\u201d zei Ploeger met een brede glimlach. \u201cMaar dit is niet het werk van \u00e9\u00e9n persoon \u2013 het is echt een teamprestatie.\u201d
De Vos vulde aan:
\u201cIedereen heeft bijgedragen. De reserves, de geblesseerden, de staf \u2013 we doen dit samen.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Een Coach met Missie<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoofdcoach Sylke Haverkorn<\/strong>, een van de toonaangevende figuren in het Nederlandse vrouwenrugby, was helder in haar boodschap:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe willen meteen vanaf het begin knallen,\u201d verklaarde ze resoluut. \u201cDe afgelopen negen jaar zijn een flinke reis geweest. Met hobbels, hoogtepunten en natuurlijk de coronaperiode. Maar nu hier staan, dat voelt gewoon goed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Haverkorn wordt ondersteund door een sterk begeleidingsteam: Irene Jansen<\/strong> (voorwaartsen) en Elke van Meer<\/strong> (achterlijn) zorgen ervoor dat het team zowel fysiek als tactisch op topniveau presteert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De finale tegen AAC Dames wordt een spektakelstuk. Twee topteams, twee verschillende stijlen, maar met \u00e9\u00e9n doel: de landstitel veroveren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AAC brengt ervaring, kracht en kwaliteit. Maar RUS Dames komt met een diepe honger, een hecht collectief, en het gevoel dat h\u00fan moment eindelijk is aangebroken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the sun dipped behind the Utrecht skyline yesterday evening, Dutch Rugby Magazine paid a visit to the final training session of RUS Dames before their long-awaited return to the Ereklasse Dames Championship Final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The atmosphere? Electric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You could feel it as soon as you stepped onto the training ground. There was laughter, purpose, intensity \u2014 the kind of energy that only a team on the brink of something special can generate. For RUS Dames, it’s been nearly a decade since they last reached this stage, and on Saturday, they\u2019ll run out against AAC Dames with history on the line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this group, it\u2019s more than just 80 minutes of rugby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Team Forged in Resilience<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

RUS isn’t just a club \u2014 it\u2019s a family. That much became clear when speaking to several injured players watching from the sidelines, shouting support and encouragement between every drill. There’s a bond here built over years of highs, lows, setbacks, and comebacks. And now, they\u2019re 80 minutes from glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Captain Lilian Ploeger<\/strong> and vice-captain Mhina de Vos<\/strong> echoed this sentiment when we caught up with them post-session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re so enthusiastic to be in this position,\u201d Ploeger said, grinning from ear to ear. \u201cBut it\u2019s not about one player or one coach \u2014 it\u2019s been a full group effort from day one.\u201d
De Vos added,
\u201cEveryone\u2019s contributed. Injured players, reserves, coaches \u2014 every single one of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

From the Touchline to the Touchline: A Coaching Vision<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Head Coach Sylke Haverkorn<\/strong>, one of the most respected minds in Dutch women\u2019s rugby, didn\u2019t sugarcoat her intentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want to come out of the blocks firing,\u201d she said firmly. \u201cIt\u2019s been quite a journey over the last nine years. We\u2019ve had our fair share of ups and downs \u2014 especially through COVID \u2014 so to be here now\u2026 it feels right.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
